Women of Color Vagina Monologues

The “Women of Color Vagina Monologues” image documents my performance in the 2017 Bay Area's Women of Color Vagina Monologues, directed by Ashley Smiley, in which an otherwise came about. Amongst a cast entirely composed of women of color, I performed the piece, “The Little Coochie Snorcher That Could”. Despite the contentious relationship between women of color and Eve Ensler, this particular production, due to cast and director Ashley Smiley’s curation, became a site worthy of Black feminist theorization around the creation of an otherwise world, a loophole, incorporating coveted cultural practices such as pouring libations, soundracking soul music, and cultivating a space of exclusive black and brown siblinghood. In what could be read as a site soley of woundship, where Black and Brown women uphold the longevity of a piece already cancelled, instead became a space laden in the critical praxis of space making.
